HOWARD HURWITZ

Executive Director, (NBCUA)

“We were challenged by limited land and roof space and Vanguard custom designed an innovative solution that involved constructing a solar canopy structure over our water treatment plant's aeration tanks. We are now saving approximately $80,000 annually by producing nearly 40 percent of our electricity needs at maximum output from the clean power of sunlight. We are thrilled with the economic and environmental benefits of our solar electric system.”

Project Highlights

Challenged with limited land and roof space, Vanguard designed and installed an innovative solar canopy structure over the plant's aeration tanks. The system will provide nearly 40 percent of the wastewater treatment plant's electricity needs when operating at full output. The system will produce an estimated 364,742 kW per year, which translates into an annual energy savings of nearly $50,000 for the utility. The system will reduced CO2 emissions by 577,489 pounds per year. That is equivalent to 29,733 gallons of gasoline, 609 barrels of oil conserved, or removing 48 cars off the road each year.
