Proprietary ground mounted DC photovoltaic (PV) system using 1,872 inmate-made Unicor 215-watt solar modules and a Satcon inverter.
The ground mounted system at FCI is estimated to produce approximately 499,268 kWh of energy in the first year, which is equivalent to the avoided emissions of 790,481 lbs. of CO2. This is comparable to taking 69 cars off of the road, or conserving 40,333 gallons of gasoline annually. FCI Fairton Inmates worked alongside Vanguard to help construct the project.
